Meditation and healthy living

Practices and routines that help connect to our physical, emotional, and mental states in real-time are the core of healthy living. Meditation is a powerful and effective way to strengthen this embodied self-awareness. Paying attention to our internal experience activates our body’s innate self-healing and self-correcting abilities. It also empowers us to do things that will truly help us feel healthy and engaged with the world as we want to be. 

Meditation is based on an internal environment of friendliness, steadiness, and strength. From this ground, we learn to accommodate whatever arises in our present embodied experience without drifting into distracting thoughts or getting overwhelmed by strong emotions. Over time, meditation helps us bring our thoughts, emotions, and embodied experience into healthy balance. When confronted by stressful situations or difficult decisions, meditation helps us remain rooted in how we feel in our bodies, which helps us metabolize challenging situations and respond in the best way possible.

About Me

I have been meditating for 15 years and mentoring individuals and groups for nearly 10 years in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition. I believe the simplicity, precision, and embodiment of meditation practice inspires friendliness to ourselves, creativity, and contentment. Above all, meditation is a natural human practice that helps us fully engage our lives. I am so excited to be offering weekly online meditation gatherings, 1-on-1 coaching, and courses.  Weekly Meditation Group

This group is an opportunity to learn, relax, deepen, and connect with other practitioners. It's energizing, enriching, and inspiring to gather with others who also practice meditation. Practitioners of any experience level are welcome.

Each week I will introduce specific theme or aspect of meditation before a guided practice of about 25 - 30 minutes. We’ll conclude with time for any questions and discussion.

My approach to meditation emphasizes friendliness, curiosity, and self-compassion. The essential point of meditation is to trust ourselves and give ourselves permission to feel however we feel. By doing this again and again, with the encouragement and inspiration of a community of practitioners, we begin to shift how we relate to ourselves and the world around us.

I also believe it’s important to connect our meditation practice with what is happening in our lives. All the challenges of 2020 - the COVID pandemic and the brutal election cycle, against a backdrop of environmental destruction and disaster - are making uncertainty, fear, and a non-specific sense of impending doom daily realities. And there are still the normal challenges of work, family, and life. I believe a regular meditation practice can help us through the stressful, scary, and reality-shaking times in which we live. It can help us show up as we want to when we are confronted by challenging situations in the future.

So many meditation offerings try to distill meditation to a clinical presentation of the mechanics and, in doing so, lose the heart of the practice. Meditation absolutely helps improve focus, decrease stress, and deepen embodied self-awareness, but it also opens us to a different way of being in the world. We are more present, confident, compassionate, and full of joy. Meditation practice helps us show up in our lives.

This course is designed to progressively and experientially explore sitting meditation and provide support to help you overcome common obstacles to a daily practice. Perhaps you’ve tried meditation on apps, podcasts, or YouTube, but became disheartened when meditation got difficult or your experience was different from what the teacher described. I will talk about the why and the how of the technique, introduce several variations, and give you the experience and knowledge to sustain a regular practice. There will also be ample opportunities for questions and discussion, both with others in the course and 1-on-1. This interaction and dialogue is key to making the practice your own!

This course is for beginners looking to get into meditation as well as people with some meditation experience who might struggle to keep a regular practice going.

Guided Meditations

It’s wonderful you’re interested in practicing meditation! You are welcome to try these two 15-minute guided practices. Please email me with any questions and consider joining my weekly free meditation gathering.

This first practice has more guidance and teaching. I recommend it if you’re newer to meditation or would like to learn more about my approach.


This second practice has less guidance and more silence. There are cues based on the 5 parts of a meditation practice I say more about in the first recording.

It might be a good idea to listen to the first practice so you know what I’m referring to with the cues but this recording will offer you more of a self-guided experience.
